SRMC was founded by Shri NPV Ramaswamy Udayar [1936 - 1998] on September 11th 1985. The medical college became deemed in the year 1994 and it became an autonomous University in December, 2006
In the year 1997, SRMC started a partnership with Harvard university in Cambridge. Starting with student exchange the alliance has spearheaded curriculum reform, focused on health care quality and safety and leadership and faculty development
